General Manager – Havana Energy Attractive Salary & Benefits
Havana Energy is a growing UK renewable energy company. As part of a program to provide sustainable energy, the Government of Cuba has established a joint venture with Havana Energy to upgrade five cogeneration biomass power plants and oversee the processing of local biomass feed stocks. Critical to the successful delivery of this $250m project is the appointment of a high calibre General Manager.
Havana Energy works in close partnership with the Cuban Government, as part of its “ Energy Revolution”, to provide clean sustainable energy utilizing Cuba’s abundant supply of renewable resources. The existing plants, currently operating alongside dedicated sugar refineries, will be upgraded, each to supply up to 33 MWe into the national grid.
The General Manager (GM), based in Havana, Cuba and onsite, will oversee a team of some fifty technicians to prepare, install, and commission the new plants to specification, on time and to budget. Running in parallel, the GM will also oversee the processing of the primary and secondary feedstock’s, Bagasse and Marabu respectively. Marabu, an invasive weed, found in abundance in Cuba has been discovered by Havana Energy and Strathclyde University to have biomass qualities of remarkable value.
The GM will, for both projects, have P&L responsibility, provide regular reporting to the JV, Havana Energy Board and Shareholders. They will be responsible for the management of all stakeholders and contractors to ensure safe and efficient delivery of the projects.
The Candidate is likely to be a qualified Engineer (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical) with a track record of delivering complex power projects within emerging markets. They should have an interest in or experience of renewable energy. They should have excellent management skills with a collaborative and pragmatic style with a commercial mindset and, ideally, be fluent in Spanish.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and innovative Energy Company working in partnership with the Government of Cuba.
